Dance Film - Quick Edit

BOTH VIDEOS GOT REMOVED FROM YOUTUBE DUE TO THE SONG COPYRIGHT SO I HAVE RE-UPLOADED THROUGH VIMEO. ORIGINAL POST COMMENTS.

Dance Quick Edit from Laura Sweetingham on Vimeo.

'I quickly cut together some of the clips from the day filming at Lambert's Yard and experimented with a couple of edits. Unfortunately it's come out not showing the movement clearly so I need to figure out what is causing this, but overall I'm really happy with the shots I got.'

'I figured out why the movement shots contained lines and re-configured the video so that the frame rates match. My camera films in 23.976 frame rate which is very unusual so does cause problems away from the preset exporting settings.

I really like the music used in this video although there will be copyright limitations which is a shame. I will probably produce a long video edit of the dance using this purely for my own portfolio, and source copyright free music for the other edits to publicise as one of my Inspirational Films. My favourite shot is the long dance one I've used a few times, I want to experiment with edits in order to use this without it seeming repetitive. I also would like to experiment with using more white space, similar to other films I've produced, as I think it reflects Katie's style and work, crisp and clean.'

Assisting a University Student

I was contacted by a University Student to answer a number of questions about Fashion and Beauty Blogging with reference to Identity. As I explored Identity in my Responsive Module last year, looking into makeup, and have continued to explore Blogging throughout my Final Major Project and my Dissertation, I was happy to share my views.
These are my responses to the questions asked.

"Name: Laura Sweetingham

Blog: www.lauracinnamon.co.uk

Please provide as much of an in depth answer as possible, bearing in mind I am primarily researching into how fashion/beauty blogging impacts your sense of identity.

Why did you start fashion/beauty blogging?

I began blogging when I recognized how people were asking where my clothes were from. I got stopped in the street three times in a day and decided that perhaps an audience would be interested in seeing my various outfits.

How long have you been doing it? And how frequently do you post?

I initially set up my blog in 2012 but have been fairly on/off until more recently (about 5/6 months ago). At the moment, I’m posting between 1-2 times per week, depending on levels of Uni work.

How to you feel fashion/beauty blogging has impacted on your lifestyle?

I think it’s made me more conscious of what people think, but it’s also made me a lot more confident in myself. I feel sometimes that I need to share a great deal of my day on social media in order to keep up with others. In a positive light, it’s played a huge part in my drive throughout University and has helped me to secure internships and a job for when I graduate.

How do you feel it has impacted on your identity?

I’ve definitely formed a strong personal style through the experimentation of outfits. I’ve examined each outfit I’ve posted in far more depth than I would a day-to-day outfit, and as a result have tailored my style according to what I’ve liked most. As mentioned before, it’s also greatly increased my confidence, and encouraged me to make bolder fashion choices.

Do you feel the voice of the blog is you’re own or performative? (as in do you adopt a different voice/role for the blog than you normally would – if so would you consider blogging in a way that enables you to communicate a different version of yourself?

I think my blog is definitely my own voice. This has developed overtime from a performative voice as I’ve started to share more lifestyle-based posts and express more opinion, making my blog more personal. I do, however, have to be a little more restrained on some topics, on my blog and social media, due to the criticism/backlash or loss of readership that may happen as a result, and to refrain from offending anyone. (For example, I chose to not express my views on the recent #wearethey phenomenon following Jamelia’s comments. I do support Plus-size in the media but definitely think there is a healthy limit and we shouldn’t encourage sizes that may affect people’s health, on either side of the scale. I have considered discussing this on my blog, but don’t want to risk offending people/it being misread.)

Has fashion/beauty blogging changed anything about you and how you view yourself? If so, how?

It’s definitely made me more confident in both myself and my personal style, allowing me to make braver choices, and ultimately be happier. I’ve never been shy, but it’s been recognized a lot by people who’ve known me for a long time as to how I’m more comfortable and confident in myself than before.

How do you think your blog may impact others and their sense of identity?

I try to encourage others to feel confident too by sharing personal experiences, style and varying lifestyle posts. I am currently producing a series of ‘inspirational’ films that will be shared on my blog, in the hope of inspiring and helping others. As my blog is pretty ‘real’ (you will see me in the same jeans all the time and I don’t only wear my clothes once) I think it isn’t likely to negatively impact someone’s sense of identity.

How would you say you try to convey yourself through blogging?

Admittedly, I think theres always going to be an element of trying to “fit in” in blogging. You can see this through the timeline of my Instagram photos, they’ve become brighter, whiter and clearer. I don’t lay my makeup out on the bed before I get ready unless its for photography purposes, and I certainly wouldn’t wait a few minutes after my food arrives before digging in unless it was for blogging purposes. I guess this means I try to convey myself as a blogger, I do try to make my life look whiter, nicer and more exciting, something people would want to aspire to, as that’s largely why people read blogs.

How do you decide/select what is ‘worth’ blogging about?

Anything that interests me is worth blogging about in my opinion. I recently shared some advice I’ve picked up through my Long Distance relationship, mainly because it’s a huge part of my life and I wanted to share it, but also as it’s almost a timeless post, that can be shared on social media for months to come, versus an outfit that would go out of Fashion.

How would you describe yourself?

I describe myself as a confident person who has a keen interest in Fashion. I have recently accepted a job in Fashion for when I graduate and love fully immersing myself in the industry, which is why I spend my spare time blogging and reading blogs.

How would describe your blog? (the voice/tone/content etc)

I think my blog is pretty real and friendly, it’s far from the polished quality of top bloggers, but shows the effort and time I spend on it. I’ve always wanted to keep my content honest and real, and fully disclose any items I’ve been gifted, or where I’ve received money for a post. I write my blog in the same way I’d write messages to my friends, maybe with less emoticons, and wouldn’t change my own tone to suit what people want to read.

Any other comments to make on beauty blogging in relation to your identity:

I think beauty blogging/makeup in general is positive on identity. Most beauty bloggers show themselves without makeup, spots and all, and show all these incredible looks. The before and after allows people to see that no ones ‘perfect’ and can help encourage others to express themselves however they wish.

Lastly, do you give me permission to use your name and information when writing about the research you have provided or would you rather I made you anonymous?

Yes.

Thanks, Tara xxx"

Business Card Designs

With my blog growing I want to ensure I have business cards for any events I attend, and also to give to people if the situation arises. I've been toying with a variety of ideas for the covers, or also getting a combination of these. Here are some of my initial designs.

FRONT
(other things I'm considering are what to include on here, I have Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest and Facebook, but am unsure on which to include and how to present these. I'm also debating the idea of including my mobile number)

BACK
Of course, the typical card would feature merely my header. However, due to the plain nature of this I'm not sure.

I have a selection of Instagram images together to produce this. As Instagram has my biggest following, I think using the beautiful images from it works well. I could produce more of these with a different selection of images, and continually update them, which I like.

This and the following are all a selection of images from various blog posts. I like that it shows the style of work and variety of topics I cover, however it would require regular updating and I risk falling out of love with one of the images.

Shoot at Lambert's Yard

For part of my Katie Gillies Inspiration Film, I collaborated with another Fashion Communication student to produce some imagery and film. Joanna Kelly acted as Creative Director, organising the shoot at a location I found, and sourcing dancers. For my own imagery and film shots, I had my own ideas and inspiration, so despite the subject and location being the same, our final shots are completely personal and different. I love the variety of shots I produced. Some focus more on the dancers, while others focus more on the fabrics. These are some initial unedited images.

Delicious Alchemy Collaboration 2 - Gluten Free Victoria Sponge Cake

Delicious Alchemy contacted me asking if I wanted to review and feature some of their products on my blog. This was the second post I produced for them, baking a Victoria Sponge cake from their Vanilla Sponge Mix. All imagery was produced by myself.

"I knew when I received a box of goodies from Delicious Alchemy that I'd end up baking the sweet ones first. After the success of my Chocolate Fudge Brownies that the Vanilla Sponge mix would be amazing, so I baked up my favourite cake - a Victoria Sponge. Armed with a tub of Vanilla buttercream and strawberry Jam (did I mention I have a sweet tooth) I caused chaos in the kitchen and this is the picturesque result. Who knew Victoria Sponge's could be so photogenic?!

Just like the Chocolate Fudge Brownies I made, the instructions were really easy to follow. For this mixture you simply needed 180g of soft unsalted butter (or a dairy free alternative if required as the mix itself is dairy free!), 3 large eggs and 20ml water. Preheat the oven to 180 Degrees and grease and line the base of two tins with greaseproof paper. I didn't have two tins of the same size, so baked one half then the other. Patience.

Essentially, you put all the ingredients together and whisk it up. I unfortunately had a useless electric whisk so it took a lot longer then advised, (an electric whisk should take just 25 seconds in total!) but when finished it had a fairly thick consistency and was all mixed up perfectly. I divided half into my tin to bake and waited 20 minutes before testing.

My cake baked perfectly in the 20 minutes, I let it cool before removing and placing on a cooling rack while cooking the second half. If you have two tins of the same size, this process would be a whole lot easier. I definitely need to invest.

Once cooled fully, you can fill and stack the cakes. I covered one based with buttercream, the other with jam and carefully placed them together.

Sprinkle some icing sugar on top for decoration, or any other way you want to decorate your cake! I then took many photos to show you all before devouring a slice. This cake passed the taste test of my Grandma, two best friends and the chef from work, so it's definitely a good'un!

YUM! Who's craving cake now?!

Links of London Collaboration - Laura Cinnamon Blog Project

I was contacted by Links of London asking to produce a shoot to promote their new Watch the World tool. This is the post, outfit I styled and imagery I produced. I collaborated with a local photographer for this shoot and am really happy with the outcome!

"The sun is shining and it's definitely feeling like summer is on its way!  So when Links of London challenged me to recreate my favourite Fashion Week look inspired from their Watch the World tool I had a head full of ideas. There's so many trends that I'm loving, but I really wanted to challenge myself and share something really different on my blog! The Watch the World tool is all about getting Fashion as it happens, you get a front row view of all the Fashion Weeks live as they happen, from the comfort of your own home. I love London Fashion Week and the excitement around Somerset House, but my bank balance doesn't allow me to pop over to Milan and Paris to mill around there, so this tool is the next best thing!

Skirt - Topshop*, Clutch - Whistles (smaller size available), Jumper - Primark, Boots - H&M, Watch - Michael Kors
This outfit is my take on a look by Sally Lapointe at NYFW. There are two images of this look on the Watch the World tool and I just fell completely in love. This of course isn't like for like, but I have fallen well and truly in love with this skirt too. The fringing is gorgeous and moves so easily but the skirt is fitted so you don't feel exposed! I've got a wedding this summer and am already planning the rest of my outfit around this skirt! I also love that it could be dressed down for a more day to day summer look with a large oversized top or light jumper layered over the top. But if you want to go dressy, it also comes as a set with a matching top!

These are some screen shots from the Watch the World tool. You can flick through the images on the watch face, and if you see something you like, you can click through to the tweet/instagram/post featuring the image. The left one was shared by Lucky Magazine on twitter. It's a great way to find new Fashion accounts to follow and get a round up of all the highlights from the whole week!

Being completely honest, these boots aren't the comfiest. I adore H&M shoes but always find them unnecessarily un-comfy and these dig in at the ankles when I'm stood up. I'm going to have to continue my hunt for some boots like this that I can wear with bare legs in the summer! I'm also desperately lusting for some Mules but don't know how much I want to spend on a pair yet. I LOVE these Office ones so much!

Have you tried Links of London's Watch the World tool yet? What's your favourite trend right now?
